2018 Double Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery | Grieve Family Winery |
---|---|
Varietal | Cabernet Sauvignon |
Cases | 171 |
New World Region | Napa Valley |
Composition |
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot |
VINTAGE
The 2018 growing season was noted for being dry, cool and long; an ideal recipe for maximum fruit expression and balance. Warm weather early in the season led to a good fruit set, while moderate temperatures from veraison through harvest extended the hang-time, allowing grapes to mature slowly and evenly. Overall, 2018 gave us slightly higher yields of well-developed fruit, exhibiting pure varietal expression in balance with crisp acidity.
WINEMAKING
The grapes for our 2018 Double Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon were picked in the early morning hours and transported immediately to the winery, where they were vinified individually by block and fermented in stainless steel tanks with an average of 20 days on the skins. The wine was racked to French oak barrels for 18 months aging before being bottled unfiltered and unfined.
TASTING NOTES
A profoundly complex and deftly structured wine, our 2018 Double Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon is an exquisitely age-worthy expression of the select vineyard blocks that are its provenance. It opens with vibrant bramble berry and forest floor notes with a hint of graphite. The expansive dark-berry palate offers mouthfilling richness framed by fine-grained tannins, with a lovely acidic tension that adds energy to the long, persistent finish. Enjoy upon release or cellar for up to 20 years.

2018 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery | Dunn Vineyards |
---|---|
Varietal | Cabernet Sauvignon |
Wine Type | Red Wine |
New World Region | Napa Valley |
Size | 750 ml |
This Napa Valley wine is a blend of their Howell Mountain fruit and a small quantity of valley floor fruit that they purchase. This valley floor fruit contributes to the wine’s earlier approachability and softer tannic structure.
Dunn’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon shows terrific purity and focus in its aromas of cassis and pencil shavings and on the medium to full-bodied palate, where it’s streamlined and smooth. There’s intensity and concentration, but they sort of slide past almost unnoticed, lubricated by fine-grained tannins and lingering notes of cassis and graphite on the finish.
